About

Tom Summers (b. 1990) is a ceramic artist and designer based in Meanjin/Brisbane. His practice is defined by lurid, richly coloured pieces that reflect a surreal and personal interpretation of the contemporary queer experience.  In general, his work invites viewers to reconsider the relationship between the everyday and fantasy, revealing new perspectives on how we experience the spaces around us.

Tom has exhibited throughout Australia, with presentations at Household (Adelaide), Gallery Lowe & Lee (Sydney), Craft ACT (Canberra), JamFactory (Adelaide) and Kolbusz Space (Perth). He is an alumnus of the JamFactory Associate Program and has been recognised in several national emerging awards, including the Midsumma Australia Post Art Prize, the North Queensland Ceramic Awards, the Shelley Simpson Ceramics Prize, and the National Emerging Art Prize.

Tom continues to develop his practice through experimentation, as well as design and exhibition projects, exploring how ceramics can collapse boundaries between art, design and the spaces they appear in.
